Title

Much of the work we do at Jo’s relies on health care professionals generously volunteering their time and expertise to us. If you are interested in joining the fantastic men and women who help to keep our services and information production running smoothly then there are several ways you can get involved, including:

Acting as a peer reviewer during the production and reviewing of our information resources (both online and printed)
Joining our panel of medical experts who volunteer on for our Ask The Expert support service
Becoming a member of our user feedback group, Jo’s Voices, who help us develop and refine our information
Becoming a volunteer for our free Helpline, which is manned by volunteers who have had personal or professional experience of cervical cancer or cell changes (abnormal cells)

Ask The Expert medical panellists

Our Ask The Expert service is one of our most popular support services. Through Ask The Expert our community are able to ask questions to a panel of qualified experts who offer support and information.

As a Medical Panellist for our Ask The Expert service you would be helping us to support our community by providing vital information and support. These questions are all anonymous and you would receive, on average, about two questions a week to respond to. These questions will be on a variety of topics, but you would be sent queries that are appropriate for you and your area of expertise.

Peer reviewers

We are a proud member of the Patient Information Forum (PIF), an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting individuals and organisations to provide high-quality, clearly communicated, evidence-based health information. In order to maintain these standards, it is essential that all of our information is based on the latest evidence and reviewed regularly by medical experts. Without your expertise we would be unable to guarantee that everything we produce for the people who use our services is fully up to date and accurate.

As a peer reviewer, you would be contacted on an ad hoc basis, as a when we produce new content or review current information. You would be approached to review content that comes within your specialist areas of interest. The length of the information sections ranges quite a lot, but generally we allow at least 1 month to review the information. As a peer reviewer you would be asked to look at several key aspects of the content and the process can take several rounds of back and forth before final sign off.

Helpline volunteers

We're looking for new Helpline volunteers who have either had personal or professional experience of cell changes (abnormal cells) or cervical cancer to join our team.

As a Helpline volunteer you will offer reliable Jo’s information, friendly support and useful signposting to those affected by cervical cancer and cell changes, and those with questions about cervical screening and HPV.

Being a Helpline volunteer allows you to make a real difference to those in need of information and support. The Helpline is open at various times throughout the day and evening according to the availability of our volunteers. You must be available to cover 2 shifts a month, each shift lasting for 3 hours.
